An Augustan Wine is made of these characteristics:
People - Augustan Wine Imports believes the ‘best’ wines are made by real people and that smaller production is better than larger production, because it allows for more intimate contact between the winemaker and the wine. We believe that people who have a positive attitude, conduct their business affairs with integrity, and strive for personal and professional greatness make the best wines. We believe that people who treat other people, as well as the land, with the greatest respect gain the most respect for their wines over time.
Places - Augustan Wine Imports believes there are special places on earth where certain grapes thrive. We seek wines that come from distinctive places. We prefer traditional regions’ use of traditional grape varieties. While we have great respect for these traditions and the wine regions that have been celebrated for centuries, we believe that where modern technology allows for more hygienic cellar practices (not more intervention or manipulative practices), this technology should be encouraged. We enjoy re-discovered wine growing regions, especially where better cellar practices allow for purer expressions of wines in areas that have a long history of grape growing (e.g. Bierzo, Campania, or Yecla).
Things - We believe, however, that a distinctive wine with a slight shortcoming is better than a homogeneous wine with no soul. We think genuine character trumps high scores. Most of all, we love wines which remind us of the people and places from which they come. We believe traditional grapes, from distinctive places, made by the hand of a dedicated winemaker who respects his natural resources and other people yield our favorite wines.
