History About Us | Owners | Directions

Augustan Wine Imports was started in 1993 by Proal Perry and Connie Mields-Perry. The inception was fairly humble, with Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant being the sole supplier. John Kane-Hartnett came on board in 1995 as a partner and followed shortly after by Enrique Ibanez. Quickly, the Portfolio took on greater dimension, with representation from many areas of the viticultural world. These areas include some of the most sought after properties in France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Australia, Germany and Austria, as well as representation from America’s wine regions of California, Washington and Oregon.

From the beginning, Augustan Wine Imports have stored their wines in a temperature-controlled warehouse, shipping to accounts throughout Florida in refrigerated trucks. Domestic shipments come to us in refrigerated trucks and wine from overseas is transported exclusively in “reefers”.
Today, a company of 30, Augustan Wine Import's staff is fully committed to the continued, but managed growth of the company. Our current staff consists of young, enthusiastic individuals, for whom the culture of wine is an integral part of their lives and selling it provides them the opportunity to share their passion.

We have made it our mission to represent unique and limited wines and spirits, with the care and respect they deserve, to Florida’s most discerning buyers. We all enjoy what we do, and look forward to long careers in this pursuit.

The story behind the logo:

The logo and name for Augustan Wine Imports emerged from several pieces of information about Proal: his interests, his studies, his name and a coin that Connie gave to him.

The logo:
Proal, who was a student of Greek and Latin, was given a coin dating back to the ‘Augustan Era’ of the Roman Empire by Connie and had it made into a ring. The coin had the image of Augustus Caesar on one side and a wine goblet on the other side. As we know, wine played a very important role in Greco-Roman culture and this was an idea that Proal wanted to convey in the name of the company. Connie’s sister, Jennifer, was given this idea and designed what is now our logo.

The name:
The ‘Augustan’ name came from Proal’s first name ‘Augustus’. Proal, who was named after his grandfather, wanted to convey a form of the name when naming the company. Proal wanted to incorporate his background in history, the coin, his interest in wine and his name when selecting the company name. He chose the name ‘Augustan’ to reflect the golden age of Latin literature and culture under Augustus Caesar.
